Nitrate Ventures Solutions

Nitrate Venture Solutions (NVS) assists UK property developers in meeting nutrient neutrality regulations, and attaining planning approval for housing developments in nitrate vulnerable zones.
NVS has developed filtration systems that work to remediate and neutralise nutrient contaminants from domestic wastewater from residential houses, before it is release into public and groundwater systems. The patent applied for modular system allows house builders to make their sites compliant with neutrality requirements.

NVS research and developed with support from the Brownfield Research Innovation Centre (BRIC) at the University of Wolverhampton, with research funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) partnership. The advanced filtration system can be installed in individual houses or community water systems to deliver breakthrough filtration technology to the housing development and domestic wastewater management market.

Nutrient Neutrality

NVS Filtration System

Nutrient Neutrality regulations require house builders to offset the nutrient output in the waste water outflows from newly constructed homes. In many regions throughout the UK, Local Planning Authorities require all proposed new developments to meet nutrient neutrality requirements before planning permission can be approved.

55% of land in England falls into Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs), where a lot of new property development is restricted by nutrient neutrality regulations.

These nutrient neutrality regulations are contributing to a severe and decades long shortage in the development of new housing stock in some of the UK’s most in-demand and livable locations.

The NVS Filtration System is a modular, on-site nutrient removal solution for new-build developments and existing housing stock.

Developed with support from The University of Wolverhampyon the patent applied for system filters and treats domestic wastewater before discharge into catchment areas.

The system enables developers to comply with nutrient neutrality regulations and secure planning approval for developments that would otherwise be denied. The solution has the potential to unlock thousands of acres of land for development.
